ACC Reception for "Word Becomes Flesh"
October 8, 2017
In our ongoing efforts to support local arts and artists, ACC hosted a reception for the final performance at the Anacostia Playhouse of "Word Becomes Flesh" by Marc Bamuthi Joseph, featuring additional dramaturgical compositions by Khalil Anthony and Dahlak Brathwaite, directed by Psalmayene 24 and produced by the Theater Alliance. The play touches on many issues but in a word can be described as a hip-hop shout-out to young men of color coming to terms with what it means to be alive and thrive in a chaotic world with a son on the way in the 21st Century. First presented during Season 13, this highly praised production received 5 Helen Hayes Awards, including Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Ensemble. 2nd Annual Faith Leaders Breakfast @ 801 East Men's ShelterSeptember 9, 2017

ACC 2017 Biennial ANC AppreciationJune 29, 2017
Every two years the Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC) holds an appreciation event on the east side of the Anacostia River for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners (ANCs), who are elected to represent residents of DC at the most grassroots level on a variety of issues: public safety, parking, zoning, and more, in an unpaid capacity. As in 2015, ACC takes the opportunity to thank and celebrate ANCs and their service while helping to extend their network of connections to the people who manage the beautiful and extensive park land and waterways that we may take for granted. This event featured presentations by National Park Service East Superintendent Tara Morrison and Ronald Thompson, Jr. |
