Navy Captain Frank Mays, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) Commander

Julie A. Kutruff, National Park Service (NPS), Frederick Douglass National Historic Site and Fort Circle Parks East, spoke about NPS's preparations for the Frederick Douglass Birthday Celebration scheduled for February 14, 2015.  You can help to

  • Help introduce NPS to community members/organizations that can help expand the event

Russell "Russ" Ramsey, Chairman & CEO, Washington 2024, and Denise Rolark Barnes, Washington Informer Newspaper, gave an exciting presentation on Washington, DC Region's bid for the 2024 Olympics.  The Council viewed a heartfelt and sincere video providing something of the non-federal, hometown flavor that makes the bid for our beloved city and region especially attractive. The Washington Ballet is offering specially priced tickets for residents of Ward 7 & Ward 8 for Septime Webre's The Nutcracker at THEARC Theater on Saturday, November 29 at 1:00 pm and 5:30 pm, and Sunday November 30 at 1:00 pm and 5:30 pm.  Inquire at washingtonballet.org or (202) 889-8150.

Also, the Washington Ballet is doing a call-out for auditions for dancers from December 1 - 6, 2014 at THEARC, 1901 Mississippi Ave SE.
  • $40 non-refundable fee due at time of audition
  • All students must come dressed in ballet attire

The Metropolitan Police Department Seventh District (MPD 7D) presents its 45th Annual Holiday Party for Youth on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Panorama Room, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1600 Morris Rd, SE. The 9th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace Walk and Parade, commemorating the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, takes place on Monday, January 19, 2015.  The Peace Walk assembles at 10:00 am and begins at 11:30 am to 2:00 pm, starting from 2500 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE (next to The United Black Fund).  The Parade is from noon until 2:00 pm starting from St. Elizabeth's East, 2700 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE, with the destination of Leckie Elementary School at 4201 Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave SE.  For more details, visit: mlkholidaydc.org.
