IMPORTANT UPDATE: DC Water's Clean Rivers and Impervious Cover (CRIAC) Relief Program HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED!
In response to the overwhelming outcry about fees levied against churches, cemeteries and other non-profit-managed land with impervious surfaces, DC Water is holding a meeting to discuss the Clean Rivers and Impervious Cover (CRIAC) Relief program. The meeting previously scheduled at the Historic Synagogue at 6th and I (Eye) St for Wednesday, October 31, 2018 HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
Here is the updated notice for the meeting:
Coalition Partners and Colleagues,
After communicating our planned Wednesday meeting to you, DOEE contacted us to suggest a re-scheduling of the meeting as they wanted to provide as fruitful a presentation as possible, along with the availability of DOEE's staff to ensure that any and all questions can be addressed. They also proactively recommended hosting meetings on multiple dates so as many entities as possible had access to the information.
As a result, our Wednesday, Oct. 31 meeting at the 6th and I St. Historic Synagogue is cancelled.
DOEE will now host two (2) public meetings on the Relief program at their headquarters (located at 1200 First St. NE, Fifth Floor) at the following dates and times:
You are welcome to attend the one that best fits your schedule. We sincerely apologize for the sudden change in
plans, but the goal is to make sure the faith community, and the non-profit sector at large, is served as completely as possible.
If you have any questions regarding the DOEE sessions, please contact Matt Johnson at matt.johnson2@dc.gov or at (202) 741- 0861 (office) or (202) 878-2443 (cell).
Questions regarding the DC RIVER Coalition and our broader efforts can be referred to Craig Muckle at mucklec@adw.org or Darcy Hirsh at dhirsh@jcouncil.org.
Your support and engagement is greatly appreciated.

Rev. Issac, Rev. Thompson, Perry, Philip,
DC pastors are rightly concerned about how DC Water’s impervious area charge is affecting church budgets. I want to make pastors aware that we now have money to expand a privately-funded program to install an attractive “Rain Garden” on church properties that that meet certain technical criteria at no cost, effort, or risk to the church. The Rain Garden will allow for a partial reduction in DC Water and city fees, and provide additional modest monthly income.
